#Rocktober 30 volume 13: iOS 5

This month I turn 30. To mark such a remarkable event, I’m spending every day of October drenched in awesome-sauce. I upgraded to iOS 5, and spent much of the time playing with new features, and found out that you can now customize text-tones, something I’ve been wanting for quite some time. I made a couple new text-tones, one is the QUACK from the System 7 sound set, the other is the sound made in Super Mario Bros. when one collects a coin. Okay, this was a cop-out Rocktober event… sue me. Bitches!

#Rocktober 30 volume 12: Vincey!

This month I turn 30. To mark such a remarkable event, I’m spending every day of October drenched in awesome-sauce. Ate tasty food at the Nick with Vince. We shared nachos and jalapeño poppers, so fucking tasty.

#Rocktober 30 volume 11: Wild Flag

This month I turn 30. To mark such a remarkable event, I’m spending every day of October drenched in awesome-sauce. Ahh, Wild Flag. I’ve been waiting for this. This is the one event I was truly waiting for. The other events were/will be okay, but man this was… this was… THIS WAS ROCKTOBER!

#Rocktober 30 volume 10: Monsters, Inc.

This month I turn 30. To mark such a remarkable event, I’m spending every day of October drenched in awesome-sauce. Yesterday I joined the Millers and we continued our year-long (so far) Pixar marathon. So far we’ve watched Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, and Toy Story 2. Last night was Monsters, Inc.! For those who don’t know, the film is about a factory of monsters who gather energy by scaring children. Sully, the top scarer, accidentally lets in a child. The film is about the relationship between the two characters and Sully’s sidekick Mike. It’s hilarious, and adorable, and so much fun. Then we ate pie.

#Rocktober 30 volume 09: Harry Potter and the Ides of March

This month I turn 30. To mark such a remarkable event, I’m spending every day of October drenched in awesome-sauce. I went to Scarborough, I feel dirty. But the Kennedy Commons AMC was the only theatre in the City of Toronto showing Harry Potter 8. I had been wanting to see Potter since it was first released all those months ago, but I never got around to it. It was damn good. There’s really not much to say, as anyone who’s interested in seeing this film already has, anyone who doesn’t care already ignored it. I have this strange inability to spend $16 for a film, so after the film,… Read More »#Rocktober 30 volume 09: Harry Potter and the Ides of March

#Rocktober 30 volume 08: Cheap Speakers

This month I turn 30. To mark such a remarkable event, I’m spending every day of October drenched in awesome-sauce. To make up for bailing on me the day before, Natalia invited me over for lunch. So I joined her and her bandmate Tim for some tasty pasta made by an authentic Italian. We hung around and chatted, and I got back my copy of the Back To The Future trilogy. Later that night, I was back at the Horseshoe, where I saw Natalia and Tim’s band The Cheap Speakers. They put on a good show as usual, and it was fun. Then came The Ruby Spirit, who were ridiculous… Read More »#Rocktober 30 volume 08: Cheap Speakers

#Rocktober 30 volume 07: 50/50

This month I turn 30. To mark such a remarkable event, I’m spending every day of October drenched in awesome-sauce. A certain SOMEBODY cancelled on me last night. So instead of dinner with a friend, I made my way to the Carlton theatre where I saw 50/50. I was originally hoping to find some cinema showing Harry Potter 8, but sadly, it’s out of theatres and gone… I guess I have to wait until I download it. Instead I opted for a film I had never heard of before, but it stars Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon Levitt, so why not. Why not?! Well, it’s depressing as hell. The films about… Read More »#Rocktober 30 volume 07: 50/50

#Rocktober 30 volume 06: Entire Cities, Government, and The Nick

This month I turn 30. To mark such a remarkable event, I’m spending every day of October drenched in awesome-sauce. After work, I went to Jackman Public School and voted. YES! My candidate won the riding. I then dined at Toronto’s best restaurant, The Old Nick. From there I chilled until it was time to head to the Horseshoe where rock and roll was to be had, and rock and roll was had. I saw Entire Cities (who I nearly called The Entire Cities). The were fun as usual. It felt like old times as I think the majority of the songs were from Deep River, their previous album. They… Read More »#Rocktober 30 volume 06: Entire Cities, Government, and The Nick

#Rocktober30 volume 05: Jonathan Richman

This month I turn 30. To mark such a remarkable event, I’m spending every day of October drenched in awesome-sauce. When I was scoping out possible events for #Rocktober30, I saw that Richman was coming to Toronto. I thought, “why not,” so after work one day, I headed to Queen and Bathurst and purchased myself a ticket to the show. I’d never call myself a fan, but when I was looking for kid-friendly songs, and my friend Matt suggested Jonathan Richman’s “I’m A Little Airplane” I was hooked. His fun, poppy songs are a great, and that one CD that Matt sent me, plus the debut of the Modern Lovers… Read More »#Rocktober30 volume 05: Jonathan Richman

Steve Jobs

Before I run to the Rivival to see Jonathan Richman, I thought I’d write down a few thoughts on the passing of Steve Jobs. My parents purchased a Macintosh SE in the late-1980s, and it was our first Macintosh computer. I took to it pretty easily, and I remember my mother teaching me many things on the computer, including basic scripting in HyperCard, and playing in MacPaint, and MacWrite. In 1994 I purchased MY first Macintosh computer. I had to let the rest of the family use it, though. It was a Macintosh LC 575. I upgraded from 8MHz to a speedy 33.3MHz. That 68040 processor sped through operations in… Read More »Steve Jobs
